Ushuaia - Boarding the Viking Polaris

 November 3

Today we were up around 4:15 am for breakfast at the hotel before boarding the bus to the airport for our three hour flight to Ushuaia where we would board our ship, the Viking Polaris.  We got to the airport and learned that the river that runs along side the airport and through Buenos Aires is a major economic factor and is an amazing 31 miles wide!  Got to the airport, escorted all the way to security by Viking reps and sailed through.  Much to our surprise, as we arrived at the gate we were boarding.  The plane was very simple, economy seats for sure.....not nearly as comfortable as our flight to Buenos Aires.  But we did get a small lunch while flying.  Right after takeoff we cleared the clouds and all you could see was blue sky.  But as we approached Ushuaia and dropped below the clouds we saw miles and miles of snow-covered mountains.  Very scenic.

WOW - scenic mountain views

At the airport our luggage came relatively quickly and were met by Viking reps again.  Escorted to the bus after we'd identified our luggage and took the about twenty minute bus ride to the ship.  Boarded and got into our upgraded stateroom, #4009 and were so SO happy to be back on board a Viking vessel.  We had drinks, had my traditional mudslide, and then decided to try and get into our favorite restaurant, Manfredi's for dinner and we were so happy to be able to have our first dinner there.  We plan to eat there at least twice more if not three times.....everything is delicious there and the staff is wonderful.  AND the wine girl, Modessa, is a sweet wine lover like me and she said she had a wine that would be ideal.  And it was!
