Day At Sea
Laid back and lazy pretty much describes the final day of our Christmas time cruise/adventure. But even though this was true, we still had some new and "coo" (as the grandson says) adventures today. The first came when we kicked off the day, like nearly all days, with morning coffee. While the grandson had Mickey waffles & bacon and Kim & I had coffee, our youngest son had a latte and when he retuned he showed us that the barista had made it unique to him by making it a "Guardians of the Galaxy" themed latte :)
Then in one of the BIGGEST treats of the cruise we headed down for the adults to enjoy their breakfast. I've been fortunate enough to have traveled to New Orleans four different times, the last three for racing weekends. And ALWAYS a stop when there - duh, who doesn't do this - is to visit the historic restaurant on Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde which is famous for their beignets. Well here on the Disney Wish one of the cafe / bars is "The Bayou," themed to New Orleans. And as such, yes indeed they offer freshly made beignets! And so that's where we enjoyed our breakfast today.
Because Kim had been with Oliver last night when we saw the wonderful movie "Wish," she took that in early this afternoon. We all met for lunch at the Marceline Market - as we'd not done lunch there. And it was ANOTHER wonderful surprise and treat....they had REAL bread pudding! That's even more significant to me because of our recent Egypt adventure :)
Went to a "Family Game Show" presentation where three parents and their child had to answer questions about one another - was "entertaining" before watching the ocean float by (saw the skyline of Miami at lunch) prior to dinner. Kim and I later in the afternoon decided to act "outside the box" of our comfort zone and went to a trivia event at "The Bayou." It was a Christmas Music Trivia contest - to which Kim admittedly said to me, "you know I'll be terrible, right?" But it was all in good fun. So we got a drink and then the contest was ready to start. Of course the ONE and ONLY event Kim would pick.....the guy started the video and audio show - it didn't work. Took about ten minutes to get going, then the sound was so low no one could hear it. Oh my. FINALLY it all worked. We did OK as we got 11-of-20 questions. Only missed three, and the rest had no clue :)
Tonight we ate in the third of the themed dining areas: "1923-Walt Disney." This restaurant is themed to the "golden era" of movie making in Hollywood. In my opinion the meal tonight, from start to finish, was the best of the cruise (others would disagree based on their previous choices). Topped the meal off with an excellent hot fudge sundae. As we left we walked around to look at the displays of original artwork from various Disney animated classics. Of course one of the movies on display was "Peter Pan" and so we had to have a photo of our own Pan by the original Peter Pan hat!
(note the Mickey Christmas pin in the lapel!)
